English Classes in the Kindergarden, Sadu, October (on going).
Ramiro and Camile start to make English class in the kindergarten with two groups. One is with the older children (5 years old) and the other one is with children between 3 and 4 years old.
They have classes one time per week, and they learn basic thing like, “Hello, how are you? What your name?”, they learn 19 animals and some colors.
In this way they are learning a foreign language when they are young, something very important for their future.
Thearte club, Musetesti, October (on going)
Lidia started to do Theatre club activities in every Thursday - she usually have 8-10 students with which ones she is playing improvisation games, learning how to act on the stage and what is the most important in theatre world. Before Christmas she is thinking to do thearte performance "Grich" and kids are waiting it very much.
EVS Presentation in Tg Jiu, October.
A English teacher of the school number 6 of Tg Jiu invited Ramiro and Camile into intercultural evening with the students, they talked about what we are doing here, about what is EVS, their activities and students made question to volunteers.
This visit allowed volunteers to present to the student what is EVS and about what is WAVE 2.
Global Village, Rovinari, 25 October.
The Global Village is a project that aims at rising awareness on other cultures, spurring intercultural learning, fighting discrimination, stereotypes and stimulating tolerance and understanding for both the volunteers and the target group. This is a dynamic and challenging project that addresses all young people, regardless of gender, religion, social or educational background.
Our Global Village was held at the Culture House of Rovinari on 25 October 2013 and the event featured presentations on stage of dances of Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Tunisia and performances in singing and dancing popular in Romania, accompanied by a sequence of slides that were shown during the presentations. The presentations were made by volunteers of the respective countries and some involved the participation of children of the region. Besides two presenters who conducted the entire event on stage.
When finished the presentations on stage the guests were into the space where the stands were mounted by volunteers in each country. The stands had various materials such as pamphlets, videos, maps, photos, flags, gifts and food. In addition to a game with questions about the countries, where players earned awards (such as sweet and savory).
Besides volunteers WAVE2 we also had the presence of volunteers from the Euro House Bustuchin. The Participating countries were: Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, Tunisia, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Armenia, Portugal and Romania.
Save books activity, Targu Carbunesti, October.
This month Orlando and Yamile organized together with our volunteers’ friends, Medhi (Tunisia) and Sophia (Austria) this activity.
The main gold is alert the kids to the importance of a good use of the books. In volunteers school the books are passed by to the kids from others school years, they don’t buy the books .
Orlando and Yamile get around 15 kids and together they cover with new paper some school books.
Haloween, Musetesti 20-29 October.
Justina and Lidia decided to do Halloween event in school and to show kids what funny events are celebrated in the world. One week before event kids quite all time were sitting in girls office and made decorations: pumpkins, vampires, cats and other.
In 29 October since morning kids were walking next to us and were asking: when event will start? From the morning girls walked in all classrooms with three girls from 8th grade and painted kids faces. At 12.00 party started: with a lot of dances, loud music, decorations, paintings on the faces, costumes, photos, smiles, ect. Kids were very happy about party. In event participated more then 100 kids and 20 parents - it was very happy day in Musetesti.
1st day of school, Targu Carbunesti, September.
Usually the kids are not happy with the first day of the school because that means the vacations are over.
Orlando and Yamile tried to make something about that!!!
They made one portrait and around the school we took pictures with the kids. They celebrated the last day of the school in the first day.
In the portrait you can see “motivat” and the date of the last day of the school year. We picture that we took it’s a promises from the kids that they will succeed this year.
Lets do it Romania, Targu Carbunesti, 15 September.
For the last two years Targu Carbunesti didn’t participate in this green activity. We gathered around 30/40 kids from General and High School and divided in two groups we went to the forest to pick up the trash.
The point of this activity is alert the kids to the evil consequences provide by pollution and also get a common sense about our town, this is our town, we must keep it clean and beautiful!
Activities in Negomir’s School, Rovinari, September (on going).
Every Monday Julieta, Elanor and Aline organize dance activity with children between 11 years in Negomir’s School, to distraction, fun and expression of the body, being able to know your body and get to where everyone can.
Activity on the mountain, Polovragi, September.
We did activities in mountain Polovragi as a way to reward the effort of some children who always participate in activities or help us when we need it. The activity happened along with volunteers from Sadu and with the support of Daniel (Scout) and his sons. When reaching the site in the morning we met with Daniel (the instructor of the mountain) and his team then Daniel (instructor) passed the guidelines for all and we started to do ziplining and rappelling with children. The afternoon we went to meet a cave Polovragi.
Meeting in Musetesti “Voluntariatul – o stade e a fi, initiative de a actiona”, Cultural House of Musetesti, 29th August.
Volunteers with members from A.R.D.R. made meeting with people from Musetesti community and presented them what activities volunteers in Musetesti made per three months, what other volunteers from W.A.V.E.2 do in their communities, A.R.D.R. project manager talked about this project, A.R.D.R. president about “Youth in action” EVS program and was presented new project coming which one will manage "Euro House Musetesti”. After presentation all guests were invited in kids painting exhibition “How I imagine Musetesti after 15 years” in Resource Centre EECA.
Objectives: to give more information for local people about concept of volunteering, to talk about NGO impact in small communities and present volunteers future activities in Musetesti. In meeting participated major and local councils from Musetesti, volunteers from project W.A.V.E.2, members from A.R.D.R. and “Euro House Musetesti” organizations.
Picnic, Musetesti - Stancesti, 27th August.
Volunteers Lidia and Justina in August decides to surprise kids and made picnic activity in Stancesti (3 km from Musetesti). They had short trip in the other village, where they met with kids who live other there, had a lot of food, played different kind of games and spend time with friends.
This activities objectives was to show kids what beautiful nature surround them, to spend more time outside and forget computers, to teach more about sports importance in their daily life and to spend free time productively. In picnic were 28 kids and three adults (not counting volunteers) and they spend more than 4 hours having fun surrounded by Gorj county nature.
Trip into the mountains, Polovragi, 10th August.
Volunteers not only work in schools but also try to travel and discover Romania. Volunteers were invited by White Wolf association to go with them into the mountains in Polovragi and to do some activities together. They not only had good time together but and decided into future to do the same activities with kids from different communities. Combination of having fun and building new cooperation is essential part of volunteering experience.
Sport activities, Musetesti, August (On going).
Volunteers got requests from kids (especially boys) to do sport activities: volleyball, football or even basketball. In The August two-three times per week kids have activities, what they asked. Objectives: to teach kids about health importance, to spend more time with friends and not near computer, to spend free time actively. In football and basketball activities participate almost only boys (10-12 participants) in volleyball - mixed groups (about 12-15 different age participants).
After two hours season kids are feeling quite tired but usualy ask when is going to be another sport activity.
Sports activities, Targu Carbunesti, August (On going).
In Targu Carbunesti a lot of kids like to play football. Every week (one time per week) volunteers Yamile and Orlando play football with them (13-17 years old).
They practice their ball control skills, technique skills, vision skills and they do this only after a good warm up, they run before they start to play and do warm up exercises to avoid muscular problems, because the warm up is very important!
In October volunteers want to increase the number of times per week they will do this activity and also add other sports like basketball and/or handball.
Objectives: Promote a healthy life, promote team building, promote respect between each other, fair play, respect and create friendships trough sports.
Every week they feel better and better in concerns of physic shape. They have new friends and when they play they don’t care about what team won the game. That makes Yamile and Orlando very happy. Also they like this activity because Orlando have more experienced on playing football and he can teach them new things.
Let’s decorate old clothers, Musetesti, 26th July.
Justina made activity “Let’s decorate old clothers” where the main objective was to talk about pollutions and importance of recycling. Kids learned how they can decorate their old clothers and to use them again like new ones. They decorated T-shirts with flowers, hearts, even skulls. In this activity participated 15 kids and in the end on the day done short catwalk with music and applauses.
Participation in Scouts event in the centre of Targu Jiu, 19th July.
Volunteers Justina and Lidia together with “Euro House Musetesti” members organized 2 days trip into the mountains near Musetesti in July. In the beginning teenagers had short season about survival into the mountains: how to read maps, how to understand compass and how correctly write coordinates. Then group was separated in to the teams and they all had short team building season. After that both groups went into the mountains, where participants had to solve a few tasks and to find treasure. In the evening everyone build tents and had nice evening near camp fire with guitar and songs. Activity objectives were to teach kids how to read maps and compass, to spend summer time outside houses and remind about nature beauty in Gorj county. In this activity participated 10 kids and 4 adults. In the next morning all team came back “into civilization” and they said that it was interesting experience.
Painting workshops, Musetesti, 5th July (On going)
Kids two times per month have different type of painting activities. Every time kids have opportunity to draw by using different materials: flip-tips, water colors, crayons, grey pencil, ect. Activities objectives are to show kids different kind of materials needed for drawing, to teach them about shapes and colors, to improve their nonverbal communication skills and to improve their talents. In every activity come more than 10 kids who like to draw and learn how to draw. Paintings are being putted on the Resource Centre walls or being done exhibitions (depends from activity and task).
Activities in the Boulevard, Rovinari, July (On going)
Volunteers two or three times per week played game, painted and done sport activities in the street for poor kids which don’t have so many possibilities to learn as other children. Objectives volunteers had quite simple: to distract their minds with funny activities and entertain them as much as possible.
Movie Sessions, Targu Carbunesti, July (On going)
Every week volunteers do Movie season with different age kids. Usually before the movie starts they promote a game or an interrogation or affirmation which is related with the theme of the movie.
Volunteers only show movies that they believe can help kids to create a critic spirit about some subjects or themes.
Objectives: Raise cultural, social, economical awareness. Volunteers try to raise students sensibility, to form an opinion about what there are seeing, to make questions.
Results: This is activity where volunteers have the biggest number of students, but sometimes they feel that kids are not receiving the message like they would like. But Yamile with Orlando are not going to give up and they know that they have to work more on that.
Art lessons, Rovinari, July (On going)
Volunteers from Rovinari did a lot of different kind of art classes, where kids done painting, modelling and decoupage with recycled items (rolls of higienic papers and milk boxes).
Objectives: to improve their non-verbal communication skills, to show possibility to work with different materials and to teach them new possibilities to spend free time productively.
In others, we performed artistic activities, working with social inclusion integrating Roma in our activities and making them feel part of society, so as well make them feel important and valued. We realized pictat activities and atelier, using recycled materials, with rolls of toilet paper, making castles and painting with tempera and crayons, we worked with salt dough, modeling, then leting the paint dry, we also designs on paper and used tempera. We used milk cartons to make boxes for gifts. We make origami paper, etc..
We continue doing dance class with different kind of music and rhythms: reggaetone, Brasilian’s samba, arabic dance, to be based on the concentration of the body, mind training and realizing how far the body of each, setting goals and to overcome class to class.
Painting on the wall, Musetesti, July
Kids in Musetesti had very funny activity in July. Two weeks their draw drafts how they would like to decorate Resource Centre walls. They draw a lot of smiling faces, flowers, music and art symbols using only 5 colors. After that volunteer Justina draw one big painting on the wall, using all what she found on those paintings. And kids had opportunity to color the entire wall by themselves.
Objectives: to teach kids about shapes and colors, to improve their working on the team skills, to show how interesting they can spend their free time. In this activity participated 22 different age kids and even 5 parents. After activity all of them were quite dirty but very happy.
Dance lessons, Rovinari, July (On going)
Elanor, Aline and Julieta done dance classes with different kind of music and rhythms: regaetone, Brasilian’s samba, arabic dance. Objectives was to teach kids concentrate their bodies, to train minds and realizing how far the body can do if people are training him regularly.
Portuguese and Spanish language lessons, Targu Carbunesti, July (On going)
Both lessons are open to everyone, however in vacations time the kids volunteers usually had in their lesson was between 13 and 17. Every week, one time per week.
They have the chance to learn a new language (Portuguese and Spanish) with a different approach from the school, they are not evaluated and also the environment is a lot more relaxed.
Orlando with Yamile teach them the basic language elements, how to introduce themselfs , and also small conversations guides. Volunteers do this seasons thought games, music , with clips from Youtube.com, and with a lot of fun. Is easier for them and is also fun. In return volunteers also learn a little more Romanian language.
Objectives: to teach new language (because everyone is a citizen of the world, so as much person knows better for him/her). Learn about a different culture, traditions and habits, because volunteers don’t teach kids only the language, they also explained their habits, traditions etc.
Results: The relax environment proves that is more easy to learn. Volunteers believe, that kids don’t have a responsibility like “I have to learn this or that”, they are free and they are feeling in that way. It’s amazing how they improve the language every week. Orlando with Yamile thinks that fun plus education together works very good, definitely.
Language lessons, Rovinari, July
Volunteers Julieta, Aline and Elanor in summer time worked in Rovinari’s school Nr. 3 but in their activities came children of all schools in Rovinari.
For one month they did English, Spanish and Italian classes, where objectives was: to teach kids basic thinks in different languages, to improve them education necessity and to spend summer productively.
Kids, as in other communities, learned how to say basic elements (”hello, my name is…, how are you”, ect.)in different languages, they also played different games in other languages and together with volunteers had very good time.
Kindergarten activities, Sadu, July - August
All the time in summer Camila and Ramiro went 3 times per week into the kindergarten and they organized activities and games with 12-16 children between 3 and 5 years old.
Some activities that they organized in the kindergarten were:
- Play with paper masks: Children painted the masks of animals and after that they simulated to be the animal of the mask.
- Paint with hands: In a big piece of paper children print the stamps of hand, the idea was to prepare gift for the parents with these stamps.
- Art with pasta: Volunteers separate the group of children in two group, and the activity was made a picture with pasta in a big piece of paper and them they painted the pasta, in this way all children worked together for made ”art with pasta”.
- Play with Salt mass: Ramiro and Camila prepared colored mass for shape with salt. The children play and modeling the mass, this thing will be part of one presentation for parents about the work of the volunteer and children in the kindergarten.
French language lessons, Musetesti, 20th June – 20th August
Two months in summer time kids had French language activities with volunteer Lidia, where they played different games and learned basic language elements in the same time. They learned how to create sentences correctly, how to read some letters and to say basic phrases. Objectives were to improve their French language skills (because kids have French language lessons at school) and teach them some new words using game method. Every week Lidia had 7-9 students and they looked very happy when they had opportunity to say some words in other languages.
English language lessons, Musetesti, 15th June – 13th September
In summer time kids for Musetesti community one time per week had English language lessons with volunteer Justina, where they learned basic language elements: how to say “Hello”, “How are you”, “My name is…”, they learned how to read short texts and translate them in Romanian language. Objectives were to improve kids basic level of English language and to show that studying language in informal way can be interesting and useful. Every week participated 8–10 students.
In the end of courses kids had last activity – karaoke afternoon, where kids sang songs in English language and had very good time. Now kids in the street greet with volunteers in English language and even teach friends how to say some words in other language.
Spanish language Classes, Sadu, June – August
In Summer one time per week students from Sadu had Spanish classes with Ramiro. In this classes they learned basics language elements (for example, how to say hello, how are you and other short conversations). Classes was separates in two parts, one was grammar and theory and the second one – games, in this way the student could put in action what they learn.
Every class he had 3 -4 students. All students was interest in Spanish classes because they know basic things from the television and music.
Cinema evenings, Musetesti, (One time per month, starting with June)
One time per month (first Friday of the month) volunteers decided to transform Cultural House of Musetesti into Cinema theatre, where people from Musetesti community sees films with Romanian subtitles and can spend time together. Films are being different type (comedy, drama, cartoon, action, ect) and very well known in the world.
Objectives: to increase people cultural level, to involve people from community in our activities, to spend free time productively. In every season come more than 20 different age people from Musetesti community they wait how volunteers will surprise them next time.
